Ask HN: What are the best platforms to follow fellow developers?
I have always used Twitter to connect with my developer friends, keep up with what developers around me are talking about and to make myself also followable, but this has become harder and harder to do as time went by. Most of my timeline consists of random tweets from people I don't follow, and no amount of fine-tuning appears to fix this. Even if you manage to disable likes and retweets from everyone you follow, Twitter starts spamming your notifications with "recommended tweets" which manage to be even worse than the likes. There's a "don't show me this again" button, but I'm convinced this does nothing but increment an integer at some analytics metric that nobody is keeping track of.
Which platforms could I use to achieve what I'm looking for? I want to know what certain people are talking about, but I have zero interest in any form of social media features like recommendations and networks. Is RSS my only hope?
- funOtter 5y agoI think RSS might be your only option. Have you tried https://diff.blog https://diff.blog ? It's basically just RSS, but might be interesting to you.
- soueuls 5y ago1. Switch from the official Twitter to using Tweetdeck 2. Unfollow everyone 3. Add them to specific list “js”, “rails”, “web3” 4. Create timeline with tweetdeck showing only the list. This way you only get tweets from people inside it.
- rockbruno 5y agoIs this still available? I can see articles from 2013 about this feature (custom timelines), but I don't have this option in Tweetdeck.
- soueuls 5y agoWith tweetdeck you can create a timeline for anything (search result, your regular feed, list, someone’s post, only posts with > comments or whatever) You just need to create one timeline for each list you want to see, then you are guaranteed than these timeline will only shows tweets belonging to the list and you won’t get any random tweet coming from Twitter suggestion. If you want to test, you can do the same with regular Twitter, just create a list and then display your list, it works as well. It just that when you start segmenting your tweet based on lists, you better use tweetdeck to display many side by side
