In my (limited) research into linked data, I saw that many newer projects now use https://w3id.org https://w3id.org identifiers, which are managed via github pull requests to this repo: https://github.com/perma-id/w3id.org https://github.com/perma-id/w3id.org
The functionality is basically the same as PURLs.
