Given how many gun deaths are suicide I wouldn't be surprised if it's a result of social isolation in response to Covid. I strongly agree with your second point... I'm all for a longer exploratory phase of life before people settle on a career, but that seems like it should involve a more gradual adoption of adult responsibilities, not delaying them ever more.
