Ask HN: What are your favorite newsgroups on Usenet?
For those using Usenet what are some of your favorite newsgroups?
- gkbrk 5y agosci.crypt has fun stuff from time to time, if you like cryptography topics. comp.lang.c is also nice, if you filter off-topic posters. They also recently started a usenet newsgroup for the Gemini protocol, but it's not widely known yet.
- mattl 5y agoWhat clients are people using for Usenet these days? I think Thunderbird is the only cross platform GUI app
- iio7 5y agoClaws-mail is great.
- thatoldfool 5y agoI just bought usenapp (https://www.usenapp.com/ https://www.usenapp.com/) after using Unison for ages on mac. This is a useful backbone map of the usenet networks: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7d/Usenet_Providers_and_Backbones.svg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7d/Usenet_P... I have a hefty block account that's my primary server, and then a TB of block data from other backbones set to be only used when my primary server is missing data.
