Intel Says New Core I9 Processor for Laptops Is Faster Than Apple's M1 Max Chip
- miles 5y agoPerhaps unsurprisingly, no mention of thermals or battery life. ;-)
- mwint 5y agoThe article mentions power draw, saying max draw for this i9 hits 115W (far in excess of M1-series), but also this: > the chart claims that the new Core i9 achieved faster performance-per-watt than the M1 Max chip, but overall the M1 Max can still operate at much lower wattages than Intel's top-of-the-line mobile offering. Interesting if that’s true.
- ggm 5y agoYou would hope that newer chip designs become competitive, if only because it would be truly terrible for Intel if this wasn't true. As a non VLSI person, what I read suggests Intel fell off their tick-tock model badly, and mis-stepped (hah) the drop down in size (density, power, speed) compared to the others. So being told a more recent design by Intel is speed competitive with Apple's M1? Good: Thats what's meant to happen. Now: rinse and repeat for the M2, M3 ...
