If you are brave, and ready to be hurt, take advantage of the fact that you have not been fired yet. The contractor you're working with, where you feel you're not pulling your weight, ask them for a few minutes of their time and have a talk with them.
You could either start such a conversation by explaining that you don't feel you're being productive, and ask them how they feel about your performance and if they have any suggestions.
Or you could ask them straight out about their impression of your performance, and then maybe tell them how you feel about it yourself.
This is scary, because the worst case is that they agree with you, but if they do, well, then at least you know there's probably something about it, and maybe you have some more detailed feedback..
Better case, they tell you that they're satisfied with your performance.
I've had this talk a few times, with someone I trust, and it's hard, because you're being vulnerable.. and to be honest, they've still not convinced me that I'm not a net negative, but they keep me on the payroll..
