If you were thinking about e.g. Dante for proprietary protocols, then of course there are non-proprietary protocols too, like e.g. AES67. Alternatively, if you prefer a protocol at a lower level / without IP, then AVB/TSN is another standardized protocol suite. However, AVB/TSN usually requires special hardware support in the network interface cards and switches to assist with QoS and to meet the timing guarantees.
- bartimus 5y agoThanks, very interesting. I'll be looking into those protocols. Though I suspect these will not allow me to send some A/V stream from my desktop to my phone. Or from my phone to my receiver. Basically a protocol that allows anyone to just send anything from anywhere to any A/V device attached to the network. With regard to AVB/TSN and specialized hardware. Would the $2500 switch from OP's article provide any benefits here?
