There is this misconception that colleagues === friends. They CAN become friends and fraternization is sometimes encouraged in some companies, but friendship is not always the goal. It's okay to treat colleagues parasocially, just as you would a waiter at a restaurant. You play nice, say how's your day, but leave it at that and don't open up (and that's fine!).
