Copyright doesn't need 2 years to get the job done. Nobody simply selling their labour in the market gets to live off what they did yesterday, never mind two years ago. It's a monopoly and in any sensible system would be subject to anti-trust and market competition action like any other monopoly. And in any sensible system there would also be a way for creative people to earn a living wage.
