If your egress is significant, you might consider Direct Connect. You get $0.02/GB egress with Direct Connect. You'd have to rent space in a data center and pay for cross connections to both AWS Direct Connect and an Internet carrier, but those are fixed monthly costs that would get your variable egress cost down to $0.02/GB without talking to the AWS sales department.
- truetraveller 5y agoMost of my egress bandwidth is public. I would have to pay Direct Connect + egress of the data center, which can still be significant. Not to mention added complexity.
- electroly 5y agoYou can get 1G or 10G ports with an Internet carrier (Cogent, HE, etc.) for a fixed monthly fee, so the only variable egress fee would be from AWS. The fixed cost is nontrivial and it's definitely a ton of complexity though, which would have to be justified in variable cost savings.
