first-class citizen vim splits in the browser. so annoying to have to scroll between the top part of a webpage and the bottom part of a webpage to mentally memcpy info into a form in the year of our lord 2022.
i think my ideal browser would have a ui like tmux
actually if we could go back to using web technologies to build browsers (reminiscent of xul) maybe we should try to build browsers using wasm - then everyone under the sun can have their own contributions to make. xmonadic firefox, anyone?
- fragmede 5y agoRight click on tab... duplicate. Managing the windows is left as an exercise for the reader (but an app like Rectangle will help).
- pizza 5y agoFair enough, and it's what I do currently - but the minimum set of inputs for this action should just be - move cursor to split point (in fact this should be optional and we just default to mid-way split) - input io event (e.g. shift + double click on a non-interactive page region) as opposed to the much greater mental complexity of manual window management + distraction of OS wm animations, delay - I can only remember 7 things at once, after all, and if I do manual wm management I run the danger of seeing some other app that I had open and it leads to another 45 minute distraction from what I was trying to do :)
- cesnja 5y agoI think Vimperator used to have `marks` support, allowing you to jump to a specific part of a webpage you defined earlier. Webextension alternatives haven't reached feature parity (yet), the one I use doesn't offer this functionality.
- srcreigh 5y agoAny reason to do this instead of multiple windows in a tiling WM?
- pizza 5y agoIt should be faster to repaint the view in the browser as well as extensible/configurable and hotkeyable, and plus if it’s browser native then it could proportionally adjust the splits when the os wm resizes it as well
- knoebber 5y agoHave you tried qutebrowser?
- pizza 5y agohmm no I haven't. looks kinda neat
