I grew up with an extremely severe allergy (think ambulance helicopters getting involved), yet my mum is a complete mushroom nerd.. not sure if it was out of ignorance, but she never policed mushrooms anywhere near the way she did other common, possible allergens.. Or maybe she just stuck to easily identifiable as edible mushrooms, like chanterelles, funnel chanterelles, penny buns and hedgehog mushroom..
