Laboratory Instrument Computer LINC: “The Genesis of a Technological Revolution”
- broswell 5y agoWe are fortunate to have a LINC, and a LINC-8 at the System Source Computer Museum. ( https://museum.syssrc.com https://museum.syssrc.com ) The museum is in Hunt Valley, MD. The LINC was last operational at Digibarn.com in 2009. We hope to have it working again early in 2022. We are also luck to have a complete set of drawings!

- fuzzfactor 5y agoThis is a great historical account. The promise of laboratory computing was so profound. I'm going to use this material to no end. So many of the things they were striving for as pioneers have still not been achieved or have drifted further out-of-reach over the decades. I wonder if this is where LINC/Quantum descended from?
- bklaasen 5y agoSevero Ornstein's "Computing in the Middle Ages" [1] has plenty of detail on the development and lab usage of the LINC. He claims it as the first personal computer. Wes Clark presents "The LINC was Early and Small" at the ACM Conference on the History of Personal Workstations in 1986.[2] [1] https://www.authorhouse.com/BookStore/BookDetails/230036-Computing-in-the-Middle-Ages https://www.authorhouse.com/BookStore/BookDetails/230036-Com...
