If you are looking to do some collective good, consider a wildlife conservation project. I created a GUI wrapper around a popular AI model for object detection for wildlife conservation [0] The idea is that most ecologists don't have the technical expertise to run such models, so making their life easier is an important task. The use of AI also saves them loads of time. The project was born when I got in touch with New Zealand's Department of Conservation for volunteering opportunities.
