- PaulHoule 5y agoI was trained as a physicist and got in the habit of rounding numbers in conversation. Some of it is communicating uncertainty, some is convenience. Thus I weigh 100 kg (in a pound country), have been married 20 yrs (really 22.8], etc. Some numbers represent a continuous quantity and can and should be rounded (maybe I weighed 98.8 kg yesterday, today I might weigh 99.3, maybe I will weigh 100.3 kg next week) other ones are like lottery numbers [If I bet 25 on the Roulette wheel and it comes up 26 I get paid exactly $0] I know my therapist looks for ‘cognitive distortions’ behind my rounding.
