In Oberon object files are executable files. Every object file can have subcommands, like the git command has init, add, commit etc. but it also contains the library functions (like libgit has) in that same object file.
If an object file contains calls to other object files, they get linked during load time, linking is not considered as a separate step.
- nine_k 5y agoThis is how things work in Java, or Python, or JavaScript.
- andi999 5y agoHow do you make sure you delivered all object files needed in deployment? Missing object files will lead only to runtime exceptions, correct?
- eterps 5y agoYes that is correct.
- pjmlp 5y agoI think the closest we got to that model is Windows with the COM/.NET interop provided by PowerShell. Note that other platforms couldn't have it, they just can't decide on whole platform development experience. On Oberon, it is a bit sad that most compilers that were developed outside of the project focused on static linking without that development experience.
