Thank you for all of this information @romanhn, I really appreciate it.
I'm surprised to hear about the level of hands-on coding skills needed for an EM interview, but it puts a different perspective on applying.
> I had the ability to take the time off to focus on interview prep
This is a good takeaway
> My cynicism about the whole process only grew, as exactly nothing from my prep was relevant to the day-to-day job at Facebook.
I've conducted interviews for IC and managerial roles myself recently, and this is a common problem. It's unfortunately part of modern hiring processes.
- romanhn 5y agoThe coding aspect depends on the role and the company. Most of my interviews were for a senior manager role and did not have coding, focusing on system design and behavioral, with the exception of one unicorn that rejected me after a coding screen for a Director role (that I thought I nailed). Mind you, all other companies skipped me past the tech screen, not sure how common that is for managers. Google downleveled and wanted to administer a coding session for L6, which I declined. I know that Facebook still has coding for senior managers (M2) but not directors (D1+).
