My laptop (i7-8650U) has slightly faster single-core performance than my 96-thread dual 7402 EPYC Milan home server. I'm fine with that. I'm not fine with undue inefficiencies, i.e., excessive cache misses, branch mis-predictions, and unparallelization due to sloppy or unfortunate code.
