I've said it before a bunch of Corpos pushing for it despite it's obvious flaws and what made me walk, and I will say it here: Soldiity is fucking garbage!
The fact that they can hide an exploit like this goes to show just how poor the vetting process is in ETH community.
Attributing the (often absurd) misgivings of ETH to the rest of the projects (like Bitcoin) is a mistake that should not be made. Whether it's the DAO, or 2.0 or the proof of stake transition. ETH is it's own cesspool and should be contained to just that--it's also no surprised established corporations and VCs are backing this far beyond anything else in this ecosystem. It's what those who gravitate towards buzzwords will opt for because it sounds promising, rather than actually taking the time to understand what the goals of a particular project is and how it functions.
I'll never forget how Bitcoin meetups, with a far larger market cap and more robust developer community, was still hanging out in bars and doing p2p trades and workshops while ETH meetups had VC backing and had their own co-working spaces with sponsorship when I was still frequenting meetups like 4-5 years ago.
