- h2odragon 5y agoI'm sure there's ponderous pontification of impending doom from back when CB radio happened: "Mindless chatter and incivility will make sure no one uses it!" The real doom was that even tho it was a cool fad, not many people actually really wanted the capability, few had need for the product. When "the Metaverse(TM) (brought to you by Carl's JR)" flops and they come to write the official autopsies of "where'd all the stock value go?" I doubt that will make the list of reasons. "People acted like people. Whocouldanode? Sorry about your retirement money, but check out our newest investment opportunity it's got MOAR blockchain on it!"

Social media has been charged with multiple measurable societal ills that wouldn't have been conceivable with CB radio. If the "metaverse" does fulfill its promise, sharply ratcheting up that immersiveness further still, is there any cause for concern?
