There’s a really interesting discussion about societal values and the tendency of the ambitious to only take on goals that are safe and socially pre-approved. We see this in the dev community, where there is automatic admiration for and an an unspoken belief that our careers are just a big ladder to working at a FAANG. And there’s nothing wrong with working there. But once you adopt a goal like that, you find you’re in competition with people who are driven more by a feeling of winning rather than genuinely wanting to be there. They’d be gunning for Salesforce if it was en vogue.
