Hi All. Previously today I created a post about 2021 -
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29737535
I can start:
1. Do workouts regularly, running at least 2 times a week
2. Walk around 1500km in a year
3. Finish a new personal project (app for Android/iOS) on Flutter
4. Move all scripts from Python to Go
5. Periodically write updates about my life and events around me (like a diary)
- NithurM 5y agoHelping more developers with Codexplainer AI.
- the_only_law 5y ago1. Hopefully I’ll be able to start going back to school. All depends if I can get my residency straight. 2. Hopefully finish or get rather far in the side project I’m invested in the most. 3. Start trying to contribute to NetBSD. I’m extremely happy that my Alpha, VAX, and SGI hardware can be revived with a modern OS and I would like to help contribute to that / prevent stagnation while I can. There are some other things I’d like to do, that likely won’t happen, thanks to the added stressors of the next year, and the passage of time.
- billybuckwheat 5y agoNo thanks. My plans are my own, and no one here (or anyone else online) is interested in them.
- xorvoid 5y ago1. Reach “conversational” level in Spanish 2. Complete a 50 miler ultra-marathon 3. Buy a vacation home on a lake 4. Start leading and organizing group events that I wish existed but no one else has stepped up on
- avl999 5y agoKeep a healthy work life balance, treat work like work and enjoy other things in my own time at time.
- asicsp 5y ago1. Foremost goal is to continue taking care of physical/mental health 2. I'm currently working on Vim Reference Guide ebook. Likely to publish in the first quarter 3. Have several more book topics in mind, but not sure if I'll start working on any of them. And it is possible that I'll come up with something else I fancy and work on it instead of already planned topics 4. Hope to make interactive apps for programming related exercises, work on games for fun, contribute to open source projects, etc

- dahston 5y ago1. Work up the courage to kill myself
- Brimstone 5y agoI hope this isn’t sarcasm, because it isn’t funny. If you are serious, please ask find someone to talk to. If you don’t have anyone to talk to, you have all of “us”.
- dahston 5y agoI'm sorry, it's not sarcasm. But I don't think it was appropriate to say. I don't think that talking can help me. I feel like I died around 2 years ago and now I'm just going about day to day things in a way that people don't get upset with me, but every day I feel more and more checked out of reality.
- cfcosta 5y agoHey, been in this situation and went out of it at some point. Some medicine, some mental work to make things better. You can make it work for you if you try. If you need someone to talk to, just send me a message, or reach me on my e-mail: me at my username dot com
- Brimstone 5y agoTalking may not feel helpful but I think if you try it and are open to the thoughts and suggestions shared by others it could help. I had a period of my life about 12 years ago (I was 39/40 years old) where I felt similar to you. Everything I did and had in my life seemed pointless and I felt like I was just waiting around to see it all inevitably crash and burn. When I went in public all I saw was a mass of people I felt completely disconnected from and wondered what problems and fears they were hiding. Panic attacks, difficulty getting out of bed. After a long mental struggle with myself assuming that the way I felt couldn’t be fixed I went to the doctor and started therapy. Aside from treatment for depression, it turned out that due to stress my testosterone had crashed and was below 100 (600-800) is normal. What you are feeling is a chemically induced state we interpret as feelings. Please don’t assume that feeling can’t be changed. With a bit of perspective and chemical correction you will be amazed how much better things can be and you can find your purpose and drive again. It will take time and it will take work, but it is worth it. Don’t let your brain lead you astray, it can play tricks on you and of course, it all feels real.
