I thought the "capital of a country/rest of a country"-split was a universal phenomenon, not just a Dutch one :p
- Cradam 5y agoBut Holland is like saying Southern England, not the same as saying London
- vanderZwan 5y agoIt's a bit like this: - Amsterdam thinks the rest of the Netherlands is just greater Amsterdam - the rest of North Holland disagrees - the rest of the Netherlands also disagrees, but thinks the province of North Holland is greater Amsterdam I'm oversimplifying for the sake of a joke of course, but like every good joke there's also a kernel of truth in it.
