Anonymized data is rarely anonymous
- nieve 5y agoJust a link and one paragraph quote from the original story: https://www.wired.com/story/big-data-may-not-know-your-name-but-it-knows-everything-else/ https://www.wired.com/story/big-data-may-not-know-your-name-...
- dang 5y agoYes. I've moved (most) comments moved to https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29735187 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29735187, which has the original source. Submitters: "Please submit the original source. If a post reports on something found on another site, submit the latter." https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- emj 5y agoThat is the format of that blog, in this case it was a bit short I do agree. The problems with anonmizing creeps up quite a bit on Flowingdata https://flowingdata.com/2014/06/23/lessons-from-improperly-anonymized-taxi-logs/ https://flowingdata.com/2014/06/23/lessons-from-improperly-a... https://flowingdata.com/2010/08/03/what-online-marketers-know-about-you/ https://flowingdata.com/2010/08/03/what-online-marketers-kno... It's also mention regularly in posts not specifically about that.
- cyberspyhunter 5y agoActually there is no such thing as anonymous data. Data is data, if you change the original data that data is useless.
- williamtrask 5y agoThis is an oversimplification.
