Astronomy makes outlandish sounding conjectures that can't be replicated either and it is not considered a religion. For example, the big bang cannot be replicated. Lack of the ability to replicate something means that it is just hard to prove that something is true. Not being able to prove something to be true via replication does not mean it is not true.
