Digital Unwrapping of the Mummy of King Amenhotep I Using CT
- wanderingstan 5y agoFor others wondering: I didn’t realize a “CAT Scans” are now called “CT”. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CT_scan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CT_scan
- ArtWomb 5y agoAll possible from the Radon Transform, first discovered in 1917. We're just beginning to see "deep" inverse methods which should eliminate secondary scattering and increase fidelity even further. Though these images were stunningly clear enough to image pelvic smoothing and determine age ;) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radon_transform https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radon_transform
- TedDoesntTalk 5y ago> As each part of the mummy was bandaged, the embalmers uttered spells and placed protective amulets on the body What is the difference between a spell and a prayer?
- detaro 5y agoThere's probably a bunch of overlap and fuzziness around the terms, but to me a spell is more "mechanical" in "you do/say X -> Y happens", vs a prayer is more "asking a higher being for some kind of support" (which it might grant or not). And in context of Abrahamic religions it's biased in that spells are "magic" and "bad" and thus what "the others" do that don't have the right religion.
