I don't think they idea that children might be "troubled" by reading a book is what people are upset about. I think the fact that someone is using the possibility to that children may be "troubled" (in some undefined way) as a reason to raise such as fuss that the book is removed without following the normal processes. It's even expected that some books will make children uncomfortable. Good books reveal uncomfortable truths about people, society, or even ourselves. We do our children a disservice "protecting" them from such truths.
