Graphs suggesting some European countries manipulate Covid statistics
- GuB-42 5y agotl;dr is that daily case and deaths statistics don't follow Benford's law, a statistical test that can indicate manipulation I am a bit surprised that this study finds so much deviance and so readily attributes it to manipulation. Not that I think that Covid statistics can't be manipulated, but that that there is so much manipulation in their specific data set (data from ECDC, daily count). Countries typically give out a variety of numbers: reported cases, confirmed cases, number of positive tests, incidence rate, total numbers by day or week, averaged or not, etc... Deaths include hospital deaths, death certificates mentioning covid, deaths by covid, deaths with covid, etc... Corrections happen all the time too. Obviously, some of these numbers have to match, for example, if you manipulate for cases at the time of reporting, you have to match the numbers of cases at the time of testing, incidence rate, and total numbers. Otherwise, it would be trivial to see that something is wrong. So manipulation should be apparent only in one of these indicators, the surprising part is that in every case manipulation is evident in the daily count sent to ECDC, why that number and not the other ones that show up everywhere.
