>Apple is waging a talent war with companies in Silicon Valley and beyond, with Meta emerging as a particular threat. Meta has hired about 100 engineers from Apple in the last few months, but it hasn’t been a one-way street: Apple also has lured away key Meta employees.
>The two companies are likely to become fierce rivals in augmented- and virtual-reality headsets and smartwatches, with both planning major hardware releases over the next two years.
Who would buy a watch from Facebook? Isn't that bound to be a privacy nightmare?
Perhaps Facebook is relying on people not recognizing the Meta brand name that will be printed on its future devices but I am not too confident about that people will be flocking to buy it.

- anshumankmr 5y agoFrom my understanding, smart watches are still not a mass market device yet. Not everyone feels the need to have one. ( I am not counting step tracker bands made by the likes of FitBit or Xiaomi as they aren't "smart"). So people who would be buying it now are going to be depending on word of mouth or professional reviews. And currently, Facebook isn't really a beloved company and neither do they have a track record of making devices apart from Portal (like Apple, Samsung etc which are very much into the business of making devices). If say, smartwatches were a must have device like smartphones are right now, people might not care as much about privacy. This can be evidenced by the fact that most smartphones are mainly tools to track your information but people have been buying them in droves for more than a decade now.And it was only recently, Apple and Google have been making strides towards keeping your data private.
