It sucks that you couldn’t recoup any compensation, but I’m not surprised at all. You don’t have a relationship with the other person’s insurance. You have a relationship with your insurance. Your insurance covers you, and your insurance may try to collect from the other driver’s insurance company. Also, this is why auto insurance offers uninsured & underinsured riders (add ons).
