FTA : "Realigning as necessary as you learn new things" ah ah ah. It basically means you made what you think is a very good decision, it actually is pretty good indeed, but somehow it doesn't align with your own management's goals (those who decide for you). For example: you decided to build a good solution for the customer, that will avoid many issues in the futures but your managemetn says that you must have a positive cash flow right now; not in the future. So you have to realign. For me the issue is not about making good decisions. Anybody can make good decision provided he/she looks past the solution-oriented mind set. The skill that you need to develop is : defend your decision in front of people who actually totally disagree with you and have ways to make your life miserable if you go with your decision anyway. I understand somle people can do that, I sure can't.
