- andrew_ 5y agoThis question was pointedly directed at the community, not HN moderators, employees, or officers. I do not feel it violates the guidelines.
- grzm 5y agoYou can get an authoritative answer from asking them directly rather than encouraging the kind of low-effort speculation that's going on in this thread.
- lotsofpulp 5y agoThere reason for a buyer to not advertise what they are willing to pay is always having an advantage in negotiating price. That is why you now see businesses advertising pay such as “up to $x per hour”. It is because those businesses have lost a little negotiating power due to shifts in labor supply. Personally, I am waiting for signs that say “starting at $x”. That will really mean labor’s negotiating position has improved.
- dang 5y agoThat can't be true, because the community is in no position to answer your question. The only people who could would be the people inside YC who actually know why they chose not to list compensation with their job ad. I don't have a clue what the answer is, and certainly nobody outside YC would. There isn't any particular connection between how YC hires for its teams internally and what the HN community thinks or feels about such things. Both are perfectly valid questions, but they're unrelated.
- perth 5y agoIt has clearly sparked a wonderful discussion even if you personally don’t like the submission.
- andrew_ 5y agoI believe that it's more possible than not that there are folks within YC that participate on HN without representing YC. As another user pointed out succinctly, there's value to this being an open discussion rather than a private one.
- anigbrowl 5y ago'X ought to be more public and transparent' is the kind of assertion that it would be ridiculous to confine to a private channel.
- grzm 5y agoSure. When there's an authoritative or knowledgeable answer, it can be shared. That's not what's happening here.
- anigbrowl 5y agoI think you're confused about the phrasing of the title. 'Why/ why not X' can be a request for information as you seem to imagine, but it can also be a proposal, as in 'why don't we have both'?
- coolso 5y agoAlso from the guidelines: > Please don't complain that a submission is inappropriate. If a story is spam or off-topic, flag it. Don't feed egregious comments by replying; flag them instead. If you flag, please don't also comment that you did.
- SantalBlush 5y agoAlso from the guidelines: >You may quote the guidelines in an attempt to scold other users, but be advised that it's something only losers do.
