Ask HN: If scientific experiments aren't limited by moral, where will we be now?
If we can ignore the impact of ignoring morals in society and only talk possible scientific / sociological achievements.
- throwawaysleep 5y agoNature vs nurture would be easily tested.
- netizen-936824 5y agoI'm not sure I understand your response. Could you please explain what you mean in the context of the posted question?
- throwawaysleep 5y agoWe could take newborn children and give them to apes to raise or leave a bunch of children on an island to see what happens.
- netizen-936824 5y agoNature vs nurture is really a non issue at this point. Basically everyone (that I have run into, short of a small percentage of undergrads) knows that its both nature and nurture. I'm also not sure what you would get out of a study just throwing some kids on an island with apes? That's super uncontrolled. Plus is this morals or research ethics we're discussing and what is the difference?
- netizen-936824 5y agoI'm not sure I understand what you're trying to ask. Are you asking what the implications are for ignoring morals and focusing on mechanics? If so, the first thing I would state is that all morals are purely a social construct. There is no such thing as "objective morals" because they differ between societies and cultures.
