I totally agree with this and I find real time chat is a terrible way to support and collaborate on software. But in my case, the users of my project overwhelmingly prefer Discord. I have begrudgingly accepted it. I started with just GitHub issues and discussions, then went to a subreddit. Users created their own unofficial Discord for my project and everyone flocked there.
