Thank you for sharing this. How did you handle being around kids the same age who were talking? My kid is 2 and isn't talking and when his cousin who is 3 months younger started talking, his father asked me how many words my kid says. I locked up and didn't respond. It dawned on me afterwards that there are parents who just don't know about this stuff b/c they don't experience it with their kids. Did you have to deal with this?
- zenlot 5y agoWe had similar situations (we're 3.5 now), our kid wasn't talking as much as others at certain age categories, but he knew ABC very well in multiple languages, he could count to 100 easily and do basic addition at the very early age, while others were better at talking. Whenever someone was saying "by now he should be doing this and that", I would respond that it's not the race[sometimes more harsh than that, so that the discussion would be over immediately]. We do not follow the so called "recommended milestones", same as we do not follow guidelines of the age recommendation on the back of the toys.

- hbcondo714 5y agoThanks, lucky indeed. In the LA area, there's a 6-month wait list to see an in-network child psychologist that can give an autism diagnosis. Our appointment is in March 2022 and therapy classes are also wait listed. All we have been able to get are 30-minute speech therapy sessions once a week that haven't helped at all.
