Why the insistence on Retina displays, though? If the pixel count is too small for the monitor size, then place the monitor further away, and use more monitors if necessary. E.g. you could have 2x 30-inch 4k monitors. The DPI is low but you can place the monitors further to compensate. Having monitors further away from the eyes may also help to prevent eye strain from focusing too close for too long.
