When I was an active Windows flight sim user, I always installed either 98lite, 2000lite, or XPlite on heavily slipstreamed installations: https://www.litepc.com/ https://www.litepc.com/ I was ruthless in tearing out cruft. To me this made the consumer versions seem quicker and more stable. I have absolutely no flight sim use case now for any of the Windows OSes, past or present.
