- phreeza 5y agoIs the power sufficient for independent take off? Or alternatively, how long can this run at constant altitude in a typical glider?
- rfreytag 5y agoAbout 30 minutes level flight for the FES systems now. Launch limits you to about 15 mins and an hour in cruise says this very short review article https://www.aviationconsumer.com/industry-news/editorial/friends-dont-let-friends-fly-electric-gliders/ https://www.aviationconsumer.com/industry-news/editorial/fri...
- marvin 5y agoThere are also explicitly self-launch capable electric gliders such as the Jonker JS-3, with much greater battery capacity.

- thescriptkiddie 5y agoI can't find it now, but I seem to remember reading about a company that was adding solar cells to the wings of their self-launching electric sustainer glider. The solar panels didn't generate anywhere near enough power to sustain cruising power, but the idea was that they could replenish the energy consumed by self-launching in the duration of a typical flight.
