I use hooks in a large codebase and I don't like them. I've found function components to gain us no benefits over classes and are harder to reason about. There are hardly any calls to useState because you require a state management library to do anything non-trivial. It's crazy we've come so far with computing and React Native is the best we can do for cross-platform software. We've looked at Qt but the licensing is $4k/year/dev.
