You make a reservation online, show up at the rental car lot, walk to the emerald or executive aisle, pick any car you want, scan the barcode with the app on your phone, show your ID and the QR code at the gate and you drive away. Hertz Gold service is similar. Frequently renters have much more efficient ways to pick up and drop vehicles. Many US credit cards offer higher tier membership with rental car companies as a benefit. The time saving only is worth any small annual membership fees.
