wow, that's bad. I don't know if the "trend is going in this direction", because I would never go to that gas station again after seeing that once. I'm sure most other people would too.

  In practice, not so much. Every gas station in my area installed these things, and they are busy as they've ever been. You would have to go well out of your way to avoid ads.
