A color has a red, a blue, and a green, and also am alpha component. It can be converted to hue, saturation, ... If the hue is the spectrum, then the saturation or the alpha could be the intensity of it. All the so called misconceptions could be interpreted that way. But I suspect I'm taking the analogy too far
