Ask HN: Thoughts on Don't Look Up?
This is about the Comet Doomsday movie: https://www.netflix.com/watch/81252357
personally I feel it has the same prescience as Idiocracy.

- ydoesitmatter 5y agoIt is honest. It is a very thinly veils reference to Covid which has proven that humanity is ready to give up before working together.
- derbOac 5y agoI thought i read somewhere it was mostly made before covid?
- scottlilly 5y agoI assumed it was a thinly-veiled reference to Global Warming.
- LinuxBender 5y agoThat is what the producer said. They were interviewed on BreakingPoints recently. [1] [1] - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Vxszkl6HBg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Vxszkl6HBg
- pohl 5y agoIt works for absolutely anything that requires urgent, collective action.
- mikewarot 5y agoI couldn't watch it more than 1/2 way through... it too closely matches our current reality. Eventually I got calmed down enough to skip to the end, then I was able to watch the rest of it. It's a good movie, but very disturbing to me. A strong story of how the donor class is ruining the world.
- LinuxBender 5y agoI also gave up on it before long. The characters had too much artificial tension for me. I could not watch them continuously allow themselves to be walked on. Being the potential end of the world, one need not follow protocol decorum rules, hell even laws. Maybe I will give it another go at some point. They do have some great actors in this movie.
- odonnellryan 5y agoI thought the end was really good.
- LinuxBender 5y agoGave it another shot. It's not bad at all.
- nickmancol 5y agoI enjoyed the movie, the idea of billionaires that cover their businesses around empty but positive words is remarkably close to our times. Also, incompetent administrations and politically correct media are well portrayed. The idea of a cataclysm like global warming denied by a lot of people in the USA makes me think to shout "just look outside".
