The other idea that comes to mind is something in between push messaging and email. Something more designed for thoughtful discussions than quick SMS ‘on the way!’ type bits. Email can obviously cover that but is very multi-purpose and not necessarily ideal either. Then there are apps like Slack or Discord, but those aren’t exactly the same either (and are server-based.)
