- whitepoplar 5y agoOracle Cloud (crazy, I know) will give you a 4-core ARM VPS with 24GB memory and 10TB bandwidth per month for free!
- socks 5y agoThis is great - thanks very much for mentioning it. Creating an account now! ARM might be tricky but for zero dollars might be some fun.
- juice_bus 5y agoThen you're just waiting around for the lawyers to figure out how to screw you - safer to just avoid it all together.
- whitepoplar 5y agoAre Oracle's lawyers really a concern for people? How can Oracle's lawyers screw you if you're simply using one of their VPS's?
- elitepleb 5y agoCase in point: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29514359 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29514359
- ac29 5y agoThat's an insanely generous offer - they seemingly also let you split it up into 4VMs if you want. Any gotchas other than Oracle generally being icky? I would seriously consider moving a couple small Linodes I use for work over that way. I quite like Linode, but free is compelling.
- whitepoplar 5y agoThe block storage devices are HDD, not SSD. You have to pay extra for SSD storage.
- ac29 5y agoThat is a downside, though with 24GB of memory, there are certainly use cases where most everything is going to be cached in RAM anyways.
- avl999 5y agoGCP offers a similar machine for free- the E2-micro- 2CPUs but only 1 GB of RAM so if you can live with that you could save the $30 https://cloud.google.com/free/docs/gcp-free-tier#always-free-usage-limits https://cloud.google.com/free/docs/gcp-free-tier#always-free...
- socks 5y agounfortunately the 2gb RAM is the one thing I feel constrained by - I mostly use it with code-server and even the default TypeScript language server is a bit too much sometimes.
