Github already has my public ssh key so I can push/pull/clone without typing a password. Why the heck don't they support ssl client authentication so the same

Github already has my public ssh key so I can push/pull/clone without typing a password. Why the heck don't they support ssl client authentication so the same thing works when I use a browser? SSL client certs are an actual thing yet no web site I have ever seen uses them. Why?
