Log4j vulnerability is mentioned. But is proprietary software more secure than FOSS?
- boomboomsubban 5y agoI think their point is at least Oracle employees are paid for any abuse thrown their way.
- scotty79 5y agoIt's not, but it's not what the author is talking about. He's mostly talking that FOSS is a thankless job creating artifacts that will get appropriated by some greedy corporation.
- kortilla 5y agoThat’s not what “appropriated” means.
- scotty79 5y agoCould you elaborate? I'm not a native speaker.
- boomboomsubban 5y agoAppropriated generally means taking without the authority to do so, which isn't true with free software. It can also mean to take exclusive control of, which somewhat works with further changes being proprietary. I thought the use was fine.
- scotty79 5y agoSo the case of tiktok taking OBS and building closed product on it wasn't 'taking without authority to do so'?
- boomboomsubban 5y agoGroups breaking the license is relatively uncommon, and even now it's possible that tiktok will rectify the violation. I didn't get the feeling you were focusing on license violators with your comment, but if you were I guess either definition works.
