- yesenadam 5y agoAmazingly bad translation! That book just might be the inspiration for the Monty Python Hungarian phrasebook sketch, no?! "my hovercraft is full of eels" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1Sw0PDgHU4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1Sw0PDgHU4
- samizdis 5y agoYou might also know that this versatile phrase is available in many languages: https://omniglot.com/language/phrases/hovercraft.htm https://omniglot.com/language/phrases/hovercraft.htm
- yesenadam 5y agohehe thank you. I'd seen it in a few languages, not that many! It was one of the first phrases I learnt in spanish, years ago - Mi aerodeslizador esta lleno de anguilas.
- lgeorget 5y agoSide note, the word "marmouset" used to exist in French at some point in time. This house in center-Brittany is called "Maison des marmousets" after its sculptures: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maison_des_Marmousets http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maison_des_Marmousets
- rnoorda 5y agoI remember discovering this book right before a long car trip with my wife- we had a great time reading the inane translations and just reveling in the absurdity. Thanks for the memories.
- danbmil99 5y agoReads like machine translation circa 1990
