2 : a situation that is strange or funny because things happen in a way that seems to be the opposite of what you expected

It seems to you this is the expected result. Therefore, it is not ironic, merely unfortunate. The good news is that now you know what irony is.

- civilized 5y agoHmm, you contradicted my belief about what is ironic based on knowledge of what I "seem" to have expected? Remarkable mind-reading powers, sir. The definition you quote is silly when taken literally, since it makes irony a completely subjective matter. The fact that you're quoting it to me while failing to correctly apply it (since you could not possibly know what I expected) is richly ironic in itself :)
- actually_a_dog 5y agoSo, you expected a site that most people think is about "slacking off" to be able to hold up under the pressure? O, such an eternal optimist you are.
- civilized 5y agoYou think a site called "overemployed" about working multiple jobs is really about slacking off? shrug okay? The guy is putting himself forward as an authority on how to juggle these multiple jobs. I don't think he ever really says it's easy or for slackers. He says you have to manage expectations while staying afloat. But his web infrastructure couldn't handle the expectations placed upon it.
- actually_a_dog 5y agoOh, I don't think it's about slacking off, either. But, clearly, most people in this comment section do. I thought you were one of them. I guess not. But, it's still not ironic that the site goes down when HN hits it. If anything, that's expected.
