Tiktok radically changed the Internet in both good and bad ways.
It introduced a rapid-fire video scrolling app that made content on demand instantaneous, and exposed the world to a bunch of forgotten and unseen ideas and content.
Problem 1 - There is literally no good user-driven choice in the equation. You literally encounter everything form pimple-popping, videos to disturbing imagery of people dying, to funny videos of cute pets.
Problem 2 - The creator system is rigged just like everywhere else, and it fosters theft of ideas and content, rewarding those who hack the system and steal content above the original creators.
Problem 3 - Very few effective measures are taken to ensure proper moderation of content and comments/interactions. Many users encounter harassment and disturbing content without the proper means of limiting those factors.
Problem 4 - The view statistics displayed within the application are often not accurate representations of actual views on each post, due to counts being (apparently) registered on the audio used in videos posted rather than based on actual views of each uploaded content item.
Problem 5 - Certain videos do not show the dates/times they were posted, and accurate information concerning the video length. This issue can be potentially harmful to mental health in distorting time perception and context.
Problem 6 - The platform provides one single success script for content creators, yet supports a wide variety of content creators of many different skills. The platform only rewards creators that adhere to it's dictated rules, which destroys the ability to build a following based on being original.
Problem 7 - Trending music is often overbearing, with no effective way of ensuring it isn't encountered a lot (Such as with the song OhNo by Creeper). This repetitive use of music and recurring sounds to accompany videos may have negative mental health implications.
That being said, The app may perhaps be fine for viewing in short sprints. :P
